As millions of people around the country continue to find themselves adjusting to a new way of life due to the current pandemic, I first and foremost hope that you and your loved ones are healthy and safe.
As a proud Senior of the Class of 2020, I want to be honest. I’m worried about my friends and their mental health during these tough times. SADD continues to help students navigate through the pressures of society by equipping and empowering them to make positive choices. You may remember SADD most for our campaigns that are geared toward traffic safety, especially during the spring and summer, when car crashes are the leading cause of injury and death for teenagers. However, the mental health and wellness of students is now a growing concern, as teens, quarantined at home, unable to attend prom or in some cases, experience an official graduation ceremony, battle isolationism, anxiety, stress, and depression.
Despite massive school closures, social distancing, and other COVID-19 ramifications, SADD remains strong and committed to supporting our young leaders. To prevent potential destructive decisions and promote healthy, positive alternatives, SADD has:
- Leveraged our communication platforms to serve as a resource for students and families around the nation, providing tips and strategies to help address safety precautions during these uncertain times.
- Launched our virtual chapters to keep students engaged while strengthening peer-to-peer relationships and promoting a culture of safety, health, and wellness
- Created various volunteer opportunities for students, as SADD is now an official certifying organization for the President's Volunteer Service Award
- Engaged partners and SADD alumni to serve as mentors for juniors and seniors in areas of financial literacy, college readiness, and global citizenship
As part of #GivingTuesdayNow, SADD invites you to join me in keeping our students, families, and communities safe. Consider supporting SADD today by making a one-time donation. Your support fuels our work and strengthens our mission to empower and equip young people with the resiliency, leadership, and advocacy skills needed to make positive life decisions.
